an unlined Wilson that Springfield offers. Bring home our original M14 assault rifle from. a Springfield simply because it comes with a hard chrome lined Krieger Criterion barrel vs. I'd pay the extra that they're asking for a James River vs. I've personally seen these issues, this isn't internet hearsay.Īs far as the James River guns.I'd be interested in knowing the back story.I thought they were somehow affiliated with Armscorp. 7.62x51mm NATO, commercial extractors, bolts, and oprods. The vast majority of problems have occured once Springfield ran out of GI parts and started using commercial barrels with tighter. I've not heard of a Springfield cast receiver having a catastrophic failure do to improper construction. Iceberg, I don't honestly care, and I doubt most here do, whether the receive is forged or cast, as long as it does it's job and is dimensionally correct.
I got a rifle back with the original serial # but a new in wrap GI barrel, oprod, bolt, trigger group, and beautiful walnut stock. To Springfield's credit, the guy I talked to was very attentive, and I think expected me to ask for something like a M21 in return.and was audibly relieved when I told him all I want was a GI spec'd rifle. They can produce decent rifles, but choose not to. Maybe the equivalent of a Bushy AR or a little better?Īnd that's the crux of the issue.Bushmaster is a sub par company that produces sub par AR's. Don't get me wrong they can't compare to a crazy horse (that cost 4K), but, for the most part I think SA puts out a decent, mid-shelf rifle. They make a lot of rifles and there have certainly been problems with QC over the years, but I still think they have put out some really nice rifles as well that are not junk. Their customer service has also come into question, but that is just my opinion.I think I remember reading another post where you referenced that incidence (IIRC they did you send you a new rifle - but that's still VERY disturbing and dangerous). They actually sued a forum member on the M14forum for posting a negative opinion of them. Also good, but there is a wait and there was some controversy a few months back. *There is also SEI (Smith Enterprises) who makes a CNC'ed billet receiver. This is actually the same forging used by Rock-Ola Allen Enterprises, James River Manufacturing, LRB Arms, M14, M1A, McMillan, Springfield Armory Related Stories M14 to M1A: The Last. *762MM Firearms has had nothing but issues, and honestly, not a very good reputation with some of the alleged shenanigans they have been pulling. You can't beat the price, and they are very easy to build up. *You want cheaper and very good? Go with a cast Fulton Armory receiver. They are NEW, so no track record yet, but so far, so good. *James River Armory (Rock-Ola) just put out their receiver a few months back. They have been making them for over a decade now. *If you want a proven track record in a forged receiver, go with the LRB. purpose of rear lug receiver is to accurize the m14 rifle by unitizing action to stock which prevents action shift. includes socket head screw and pillar bedding sleeve. They are also immediately available while LRB has a 6-8 month waiting list. lug is welded in position prior to heat treating and phosphate. I'd also look at an LRB, but their wait list is forever. The SA seemed to be a little bit closer in tolerances than the Fulton, but both rifles shoot well. So far, very good reviews and about $300 CHEAPER than LRB. I built up two M14 rifles, one on a SA receiver and one on an older Fulton (their original receiver). SAI apparently no longer sells stripped receivers.Īlso available is a new guy on the block, who is also making forged receivers: Rock-Ola (Jame River Armory) I mention Fulton because you can actually order one NOW and get it before you die of old age.
LRBs are the cream of the crop, and more expensive than Fulton Armory (who makes and excellent cast receiver). Will you be assembling the rifle yourself or will you send it out for assembly Vos. Went with LRB Arms for the parts kit, a bit less cost, but not all USGI parts & synthetic stock vs. Been waiting since mid December, hopefully not to much longer. LRB is a 20 minute drive from where I live, and Lou (the owner) is a great guy and runs a reputable company. M14 firing pin is a bit shorter perhaps 1/2 inch or so, definitely wont interchange. cast, so I won't open up that can of worms in this thread. You will get many differing opinions on forged vs. One of the best (and one of two) companies that make a true, drop forged M14 receiver. Does anyone have any experience with the company LRB, ? I am wanting to build up a M14 with a USGI Barrel and stock I bought here on the forum.
